What to Expect at Your First Chiropractic Visit

If you’re visiting a chiropractor for the first time, it’s completely normal to be unsure about what will happen.

At Back On Track Chiro in Australind, your first appointment is focused on understanding your problem, assessing how you’re moving and functioning, and deciding whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you.

Your First Visit

We’ll start by talking through:

• What has been bothering you
• How and when the problem started
• Your medical and injury history
• What makes your symptoms better or worse
• What your goals are for care

Your chiropractor will then perform an appropriate physical examination. This may include checking movement, joints, muscles, posture, strength, reflexes or other tests depending on your symptoms.

If further investigation is needed, we may recommend imaging or referral to another health professional. X-rays are not routinely required for every patient.

Will I Be Treated on My First Visit?

Often, yes.

If chiropractic care appears appropriate, we’ll explain what we have found, discuss the proposed treatment, alternatives and relevant risks, and make sure you are comfortable before proceeding.

In some situations, it may be more appropriate to wait for further information or testing before treatment begins.

What Happens After the First Visit?

We’ll discuss how you responded to your first appointment and explain our recommendations for ongoing care, if any.

The number and frequency of visits varies from person to person. It depends on factors such as the nature of the problem, how long it has been present, your health, your goals and how you respond to treatment.

You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and be involved in decisions about your care.

Concession initial consultation: $130
Standard consultation: $85
Concession standard consultation: $75

Private health rebates may be available depending on your level of extras cover.

Eligible patients may also receive Medicare-funded chiropractic visits when referred by their GP under an appropriate chronic condition management plan.

Do I Need to Bring Anything?

If you have relevant X-rays, scans, specialist reports or a GP referral, feel free to bring them with you.

Comfortable clothing is helpful, but you generally do not need to wear anything special.
