FAQs

What happens at my first chiropractic appointment?

Your first appointment gives us time to understand what has been bothering you, your health history, and what you would like help with.

We’ll perform an appropriate examination and assessment, explain what we find, and discuss whether chiropractic care may be suitable for you. If we think further investigation or referral to another health professional is appropriate, we’ll discuss that with you as well.

How much does chiropractic care cost?

Our current fees are:

Initial consultation: $140
Concession initial consultation: $130
Standard consultation: $85
Concession standard consultation: $75

If you have private health insurance with extras cover, you may be able to use hiccaps to claim part of your consultation fee depending on your policy.

Do I need X-rays before seeing a chiropractor?

No. X-rays are not routinely required before seeing a chiropractor.

If imaging may be useful based on your history or examination, we’ll discuss this with you. In some situations, existing X-rays, scans or other medical reports can also be helpful, so feel free to bring them with you.

How many chiropractic visits will I need?

There isn’t one answer that applies to everyone.

The number and frequency of visits can depend on the nature of the problem, how long it has been present, your general health, your goals and how you respond to care.

We’ll explain what we recommend and why, and you can decide what is right for you.

What conditions do you commonly see?

At Back On Track Chiro we commonly see people with musculoskeletal problems including:

  • Lower back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Sciatica and leg pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Hip pain
  • Knee pain
  • Upper back pain
  • Joint stiffness and restricted movement

Every person is different, so assessment is important before deciding whether chiropractic care is appropriate.

Can chiropractic help with lower back pain?

Lower back pain is one of the most common reasons people visit our clinic.

There are many possible causes of back pain, so the first step is working out what may be contributing to yours. Depending on the findings, care may include manual treatment, movement advice, exercise and strategies to help you manage the problem.

Can chiropractic help with neck pain or headaches?

Neck pain and some types of headache are commonly associated with problems involving joints, muscles and movement in the neck, jaw, and upper back.

We assess the likely source of your symptoms first and discuss whether chiropractic care may be appropriate for your particular situation.

Do you see people with sciatica?

Yes. We regularly assess people with pain that travels from the lower back or buttock into the leg.

“Sciatica” can have a number of different causes, so it is important to assess the symptoms rather than assuming they all come from the same problem.

Is chiropractic treatment painful?

Most chiropractic treatment is intended to be comfortable, although some areas can be tender when they are already irritated.

Techniques can be modified depending on your age, condition, comfort level and preferences. If you are uncomfortable with a particular technique, please let us know.

Is chiropractic suitable for older people?

Age alone does not determine whether chiropractic care is suitable.

Treatment can be modified considerably depending on bone health, medical history, mobility and the condition being treated. We assess each person individually and use techniques appropriate to them.

Do you treat children?

We do see children where chiropractic assessment and care are appropriate.

Techniques used with children are generally different from those used with adults and are modified for the child’s age, size and presentation. Parents or guardians are involved in decisions about care.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Comfortable clothing is best.

You usually won’t need special clothing, but clothes that allow you to move easily can make examination and treatment more comfortable.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. You can normally make an appointment with a chiropractor without a referral.

Some Medicare-funded care arrangements require a referral or care plan from your GP, so if you have one, please bring the relevant paperwork with you.

Can I claim chiropractic through private health insurance?

Many Australian private health insurance policies include chiropractic under extras cover.

The amount you can claim depends on your insurer and level of cover, so it is best to check directly with your health fund if you are unsure.

Do you accept Medicare referrals?

We can see eligible patients referred by their GP under Medicare chronic condition management arrangements.

Your GP determines whether you are eligible and provides the appropriate referral documentation.
