What is a Sciatic?

Wednesday, November 02, 2016

So you have hip and leg pain eh?  Is that tingly, burny, achy, numb, sharp or shooty?  Well…Let’s just lump it all into one and call it “SCIATIC”…

Wait a minute…NO DON”T!!

There are many things in your body that can cause hip and leg pain. MUSCLES and TENDONS and LIGAMENTS… Oh My!!

The Sciatic Nerve is one massive (the size of your pinky finger) and important nerve that comes out of your spine in your lower back and runs down the back of the leg.  The sciatic is like an information highway, carrying information to and from the brain and your body.  One of the things it does is help control of the movements of the leg, such as walking.  If your sciatic nerve is being irritated in your lower back, or your hip, you will certain hear about it.  If you are getting hip and leg pain, however, the chances are that it is coming from something other than your sciatic nerve.
